Born in Edinburgh in 1930 Richard Demarco is one of Scotland’s most influential promoters of the visual and performing arts.
On the year of his 80th Birthday and two days before a major exhibition celebrating his life and work, he received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Polish Bene Merito award.
The exhibition is taking place in the upper gallery spaces of the Royal Scottish Academy building on The Mound in Edinburgh and will feature work by ten artists whom have had established dialogues with Richard Demarco.
The exhibition includes two newly-commissioned portraits of Richard Demarco by David Mach, the monumental sculpture series ‘The Court of King Arthur’ by Magdalena Abakanowicz – which is shown for the first time in the UK.
